Sheridan Brown

I am currently exploring a “direct style” of painting that emphasizes careful observation and discipline of brushwork. The idea is to lay down one brush stroke at a time and leave it alone. This style of painting forces me to explore and get to the real essence of a subject without a lot of confusion and unimportant detail. The first stroke is always the easiest as the following brushwork has to relate to it. It’s a real challenge to know when to leave a painting alone and what to edit out.
